A free online notepad that lives in your browser

Sometimes you just need somewhere to type. A phone number to hold for a minute, a list before a meeting, a paragraph you’re moving between two apps. kladdi is a free online notepad for exactly that. Open the tab and start writing. There is no sign-up, no install, and no save button to remember.

A notepad that remembers

The desktop notepad and the throwaway text file have the same problem: they’re easy to lose. kladdi keeps what you write. Everything is saved locally in your browser (in IndexedDB) as you type, and the note you had open comes back the next time you open the page. Close the tab, reboot, come back tomorrow; it’s still there.

Why kladdi makes a good notepad

• No account, no login. Open the page and write. Nothing stands between you and a blank line.
• It stays on your device. Notes are saved locally and nothing is sent to a server by default, so a notepad you use for half-formed thoughts stays private.

More than plain text, when you want it

A notepad here isn’t limited to plain text. Write in markdown and see it rendered live, or paste in code and get syntax highlighting for the file type. And when a note should become a real file, you can sync a workspace to a folder on your disk (in Chrome or Edge) so your notes live as plain files you own.
